Dottor Francesco De Maria

Dr. Francesco De Maria is a resident physician specializing in Infectious and Tropical Diseases, with a diverse professional journey that spans leading hospitals, international humanitarian missions, and cutting-edge research projects.

After earning his Medical Degree from the Magna Graecia University of Catanzaro in 2021, with an experimental thesis on HIV-HCV coinfection in Uganda, he pursued his specialization in Infectious and Tropical Diseases at Tor Vergata University of Rome, where he is currently in his fourth year.

Dr. De Maria’s professional experience is distinguished by his involvement in prestigious national and international institutions, such as the Lazzaro Spallanzani National Institute for Infectious Diseases in Rome, where he worked in the Hepatology and Transplant Department, contributing to pioneering studies on viral hepatitis treatments and transplant patient management.

At the same time, he has gained extensive emergency experience, serving as an onboard physician on the quarantine ship Aurelia, managed by the Italian Red Cross, where he played a key role in providing medical care to migrants during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. This role required not only advanced clinical skills but also a high degree of adaptability, multidisciplinary coordination, and emergency management in complex settings.

Beyond clinical practice, Dr. De Maria has been actively involved in international medical missions, working in Uganda and Madagascar, where he contributed to research, prevention, and treatment projects focused on viral hepatitis and emerging infectious diseases in low-resource settings.

His dedication to scientific research is evident in his extensive publication record in high-impact international journals, including studies on the efficacy of bulevirtide in treating hepatitis delta and research on the progression of viral infections in immunocompromised patients. He has also presented his work at renowned medical congresses, further solidifying his role as an expert in the field.

As an active member of leading scientific societies such as SIMIT (Italian Society of Infectious and Tropical Diseases), EASL (European Association for the Study of the Liver), and AISF (Italian Association for the Study of the Liver), Dr. De Maria combines clinical expertise, a passion for research, and a strong humanitarian spirit, embodying a modern and global vision of infectious disease medicine.

His career is driven by an unwavering commitment to patient care, scientific innovation, and social responsibility, making him a prominent figure in both Italian and international medical landscapes.
